Rune-covered Sigtuna
For Listening
Sigtuna is the place in Sweden with the most known runestones, around 30 in total. Many of these runestones are, however, quite fragmented and have not been found in their original context. The majority can be dated to the second half of the 10th century. A total of 12 runestones are part of the walking tour. Additionally, several runestones are part of Sigtuna Museum's permanent exhibition. Here, visitors can also see several runic inscriptions made on various objects and bones, most commonly cattle ribs, found during archaeological excavations. Each runestone has a number and a letter. The letter U indicates that it is located in Uppland. The number helps locate the runestone in various registers and on websites. Nf stands for 'New Find' and the following number indicates the year they were discovered.
