Runestone U394

Runestone U394

The stone stands by the southern wall inside the ruins of Saint Pers Church.

“Tor[björn r]ese denna [s]ten efter Esbjörn, sin bror. De är Dyrvers söner i…”.

According to the oldest records from 1612, it lay as a threshold stone in the church's south portal and remained there until 1941. The stone was likely carved by Torbjörn, possibly the same man who erected it, who was active in the Sigtuna area during the second half of the 1000s.  He  also  carved  U  379  at  Mariakyrkan,  U  391  at  Prästgatan  and  a  fragment,  U 385, which  is  built  into  the  ruins  of  Saint  Olav's  Church.

Did you know that
About half of all runestones are located in Uppland. The reason for this is that the custom of erecting runestones continued longer here than in other parts of the country. The highest concentration of runestones is in the areas between Stockholm and Uppsala.
