Runestone U379

Runestone U379

The stone stands on the grassy terrace south of Mariakyrkan.

“The guild brothers of Fris let this stone be raised after Torkel, their guild brother. God help his soul. Carved by Torbjörn.”

At Prästgatan, there is an inscription, U 391, which the guild brothers had carved in memory of another of their members. The carver Torbjörn was active in and around Sigtuna during the later part of the 1000s. He also carved U 391 and the fragment, U 385, which is built into the ruins of Sankt Olofs kyrka.
