Runestone U390

The stone stands by the St. Lars church ruin

“Sven let the stone be raised. his father and Frödis after Ulv, her husband, God help his soul.”

The names Sven and Ulf were very common during the Viking Age, but Frödis is known from the Viking Age only as the name of Erik the Red's daughter. Most of the fragmentary stone lay for a long time as a doorstep in front of a house on Storgatan. It was erected in its current location in 1941. The fragment, which forms the left side of the stone, was found in 1958 on a property at Stora torget. Forty years later, it was discovered that the fragment belonged to the previously found fragmentary stone, and the pieces were joined together.
