Researchers have shown that the Uppland runestones can be divided into different style groups based on the development, similarities, and differences in the ornamentation. These style groups can be used to date the stones. Briefly, it can be said that the ornamentation is quite simple on the older stones, while younger stones have more complicated and elegant patterns. On the other hand, the older stones have more content-rich and varied texts than the younger ones, whose texts are short and more standardized.
