Runestone U392

Runestone U392

The stone stands in a garden on the eastern side of Runstigen.

“Sven had these runes carved … the other was named Assur the third, Germund the fourth … were their mother.”

The upper part of the inscription is completely eroded, and the meaning of the text is therefore unclear. The Sven who had the inscription carved was likely the father of the four (or possibly five) men listed. Unfortunately, the mother's name has also not been preserved. The three preserved names - Sven, Assur, and Germund - are all common in runic inscriptions.

Did you know that
Over 90 percent of the stones were erected over one or more men who fell in a far-off land or died at home. Every eighth stone was erected by a woman alone, and every tenth by a woman together with several men; often the deceased's widow and sons, but sometimes also sisters and brothers.
