The Medieval Hill Fort Overlooking Lubikai Lake: Discovered in 1969

Piliakalnis, a medieval hill fort, is located in the Anykščiai district, south of Kriokšliai, Debeikių seniūnija. It is situated near the Rubikiai – Mačionys road, in Kriokšlis, on the left side of the first fork, approximately 700 meters to the west – 50 meters to the west, north of the road. The hill fort rises about 8 meters from Lubikai lake and has no clear border, connected to the surrounding hills, forming an oval, elongated west-east – north-south ellipse, about 30 meters wide and 24 meters high. Piliakalnis was built in a separate cape of the Lubikai peninsula and made of earth, with construction starting in the Middle Ages. The hill fort is registered until 2005 under number A1422K. Piliakalnis was discovered in 1969 by the Historical Institute and is dated to the 1st millennium AD.

In 2003, a stone monument was constructed on the hill. The area of the cultural heritage site is 18,000 m², and the area of the physical protection zone is 4,000 m². A residential area of approximately 0.2 square hectares is located to the east of the hill.
