Protective Giants of Sungailiškis

The Sungailiškis hillfort, located in Sungailiškis, Leliūnų seniūnija, Utenos rajono savivaldybės teritorijoje, is an ancient archaeological site registered until 2005. It is shaped like a quadrilateral, with a square central area measuring 34 x 20 meters. In the center of this square, a 1-meter deep pit, 39 meters in diameter and 1 meter high, can be found, with a 4-meter wide and 5-meter deep entrance on one side. Beyond the entrance, ancient stone statues, ranging from 5 to 11 meters high, can be found, with two trenches surrounding the hillfort. The Institute of History identified the hillfort in 1970. Ancient trees once stood in the center of the hillfort, and the area surrounding the site contains an ancient settlement, where broken and whole ceramics are found.
