Water-filled ditches guard the ancient fortress of Klabiniai

The ancient fortress Klabiniai is situated in Molėtų region, Lithuania. The site of interest, approximately 45x17 meters in size, features impressive water-filled ditches on two sides. The main entrance is located on the west side, protected by a 1-meter high, 6-meter wide doorway with a 3-meter high slit. The north doorway has a 5-meter high slit. There is a 2-meter high, 8-meter wide doorway on the north side, with a terrace beneath it. The access steps are on the east side. The fortress is near the Virintos River. It was excavated in 1936 by Petras Tarasenka and again in 1978 by the Research and Methodological Commission. The fortress was partially destroyed by landslides and its diameter is about 45 meters.
