The 13-meter hill fort with a 26-mound pilkapynas

The settlement known as Pilale, or more commonly as Janonių piliakalnis, is an ancient hill fort located near Janonių settlement in the western part of Silalio miško, Molėtų region. The hills of Pilale are 13 meters high, and the highest part of the hills is approximately 46x25 meters in diameter. The southern part of the hill fort is a calvos zemesnioji part. Nearby, there is a mound called a pilkapynas, which is made of 26 mounds. The height of the mounds ranges from 10-15 meters. Some parts of the mounds were excavated in the late 20th century by the Ancient History Institute. Following archaeological research in 1978, the hill fort is currently protected by the National Museum of Lithuania.
