Sankt Petersburg: Fascinating toponyms

För bläddring

Throughout our entire life, from our birth to our death, various geographical names accompany us. Geographical names do not appear on an empty place: marking certain characteristics of the relief and nature, people living nearby named them, highlighting characteristic features. With the passage of time, the peoples living in the region have changed, but the names have been preserved and used by those who have replaced them. Any toponym for historical science is not simply the name of any geographic object, but an historical trace on the map, which has its own history of origin, linguistic origin and expressive meaning
