Villa Foscarini Rossi: A Venetian Villa Turned Shoe Museum

Step back in time to Villa Foscarini Rossi, a Venetian villa transformed into a unique museum dedicated to the history of Italian footwear.

The Villa Foscarini Rossi is located in Stra, Veneto, Italy, along the Riviera del Brenta. Originally built by Venetian admiral Jacopo Foscarini in 1602, an additional block was added later to accommodate guests. In 1995, the villa was refurbished by shoe manufacturer Luigino Rossi, who established the Museo Rossimoda della Calzatura, a museum dedicated to Italian footwear. The villa houses frescoes painted in 1652 by Domenico de’ Bruni and Pietro Liberi, which depict the marriage of Giambattista Foscarini and Chiara Soranzo that took place in 1651. After the fall of the Venetian Republic, the villa changed hands several times before being reacquired by Rossi. Today, visitors can explore the villa's gardens and its shoe museum, learning about the history of Italian footwear throughout the centuries.
