Located in Pivašiūnų seniūnija, a charming region of Alytaus county, lies Pivašiūnai. At its heart is a historical monument, the oval Pivašiūnų piliakalnis. Measuring 52x23 meters, this site features a unique cultural layer, where intricate ceramics were unearthed. The central part of the hillfort, 0.3 meters above the ground, has a foundation that plunges 8 meters underground. An expansive terrace, stretching 20-30 meters wide, is located 8 meters below the central part, smoothly connected to the hill. The slopes of this imposing structure rise steeply, reaching heights of 5-6 meters and towering 20 meters. Thought to have stood since the 1st century AD, the Pivašiūnų piliakalnis has been under the protection of the Lithuanian Cultural Heritage Protection Department since 1998.
