The oval hillfort at Daugų, close to Neveglos lake, was excavated in the first half of the 1st millennium AD. Archaeological findings from the 13th-15th centuries have been discovered at the site. A Stone Age settlement, often referred to as Daugų or Pilaite, is located near Neveglos lake. The hill known as Daugios pilis is believed to have been fortified by the people of Daugas. A legend tells of Duke Daugas, who had the hill built by his people, only for it to be destroyed by a crusade army. Daugė, the Duke’s daughter, is believed to have been buried on the hill after refusing to surrender. Her grave, and possibly her name, can be found on the earth map.
