Remnants of a 1231 Abbey: Sant Pere de les Ventoses

Deep in the Spanish countryside, perched on a hill overlooking the river Sió, stands the Church of Sant Pere de les Ventoses. What stands today is not the original construction; the existing church replaced the 1231 structure after it was destroyed in 1697. Yet, it remains one of the few surviving structures of the 10th century abbey of Sant Pere d’Agèr, a one-time religious community. The church, a single-nave structure, boasts an absidium at the head, two side chapels extending from the north and south, and a bell tower on the right side of the main facade.
