Santa Maria de Coscó

Santa Maria de Coscó is the parish church of the village of Coscó, in the municipality of Oliola (Noguera), included in the Inventary of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. The church and the territory of Coscó are well documented from the mid-11th century. In 1054, a dispute over the limits of the term of Cabanabona mentions 'kastrum de Choscolio'. A document or pact from 1112 is made between a prebend of the Seu d’Urgell and Ramon Bonfill, ‘miles de Choscol’.

In 1116, the canons of the Seu d’Urgell agreed with Ramon Ponç and his brothers on the distribution of the tithes and fruits of the place. In 1141, in the testament of Bishop Pere Berenguer of Urgell, the Church of 'Coscol' is mentioned. The church continued to exist, as documented by subsequent references. The apse window is double-arched and there are two windows of the same type on the southern façade, both walled up, which correspond to the original work. The bell tower was built in 1853.
