The Arab fortress huddled up in the Spanish village of Tales

The ruins of the castell of Tales are located in the highest part of the urban nucleus of the village that bears its name. The origins of this fortress are shrouded in mystery, but it is probable that it is of Arab origin, like many of the castles in the nearby mountains. The first construction phase constitutes the original nucleus, possibly of Arab origin, with the use of masonry with a rough exterior of lime mortar throughout the wall. The second construction phase is composed of three quadrangular towers.

The third construction phase corresponds to the 19th century. During the Carlin War, modifications were made to the castle, adapting the structure to be defended by the use of rifles and artillery. The castle still conserves the outer parapet. The entrance to the castle was protected by a tower, the remains of which can still be seen. The walls still stand, as well as three towers. In the interior of the enclosure, a medium-sized cistern can be observed.
