Oval Pit at Girgždūtė Hill Fort, Dating Back 4000 Years

The hill fort of Girgždūtė, located in Lithuania, stands in a natural valley. Its highest point, Girgždūtės kalnas, reaches an altitude of 228 meters. At the top, a large oval pit can be found, measuring 150 meters wide and 50 meters deep. Two entrances lead to this pit – one on the northern side and the other on the south. Unfortunately, there's no information about the size of the northern entrance or the staircase leading to it. Girgždūdė is a fascinating natural landmark, but due to limited excavation since 1969, it remains a hidden gem for most.
