Tucked in the chest of Silalės, the Burbiškiai Hillforts are no ordinary archaeological sites. Each hillfort whispers a secret, the Pilies kalnas temple location an alluring riddle. Yet, the second hillfort shows an intriguing splash, an ancient oak-tree trunk and a continuous customary fire pit. Deeper, the cultural layer at Parspilo kalnas smacks you in the face, with a 0.5-meter wide hole, hidden 8 meters beneath the earth's surface. This hole beams walls towering from 8-12 meters high, drawing you into a time long passed. Despite the Lithuanian History Institute's visits in 1948 and 1964, these hillforts, in true Lithuanian style, have kept their lips sealed, burying their secrets ever deeper.
