In the spring of 1940, Swedish police disbanded an anti-Nazi sabotage group in Stockholm, led by the English citizen Alfred 'Freddie' Rickman. During the raid, police found 190 kilos of explosive material, eight landmines, and around 300 incendiary bombs in a storage loft at Grevgatan 4. It was discovered that the group had long-term plans to destroy cranes used for ore loading in Oxelösund's harbor, in an attempt to hinder ore transportation from Sweden to the German war effort. Rickman was sentenced to eight years in prison in 1940 but was pardoned in 1944 to be deported to his homeland.
