Robberies at the Workers' Union Bank

The bank of the Workers' Union was subject to several robberies in the late 19th century.

At lunchtime on March 16, 1916, Leonard Gyllenpalm went to the Arbetarringens bank on Humlegårdsgatan and asked to rent a bank safe. Once inside the vault, he attacked the bank employee with an axe, killing him instantly. He also managed to shoot and kill a female cashier. Eventually, the perpetrator was arrested outside the door of Kommendörsgatan 12, where he had been living for a time. Just two years into his life sentence on Långholmen, Leonard Gyllenpalm died due to complications from tuberculosis.
