Disease-stricken and hellishly cold: the cursed settlement

This tale tells of a place where disease ran rampant, and winter was a relentless, frigid foe.

After moving from Prästgatan 78 in Gamla stan, Carl Larsson's family settles on Östermalm. One of the residences is in a now demolished house on Grev Magnigatan 7. Later, the artist would describe the place as ‘a heaven for the needy, the sick and the destitute’. By an event, August Strindberg resides in the same house for a period. At another time, Carl Larsson's family also resides on Grevgatan.
