The Perplexing Medieval Grigaičių Enclave, Nestled in Pilalė, Lithuania

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Pilalė, a century-old enigma lies: a secluded relic that whispers tales of a historic Curonian castle. That's the intriguing story of the Grigaičių site, located in the Plungė Region.

The Grigaičių site, an awfully cryptic relic of the Middle Ages, can be found nestled within Pilalė's countryside, in the Plungė Region, close to the Grigaičių settlement, Babrunga Parish. The site measures roughly 38 meters by 25 meters and stands about 1 meter high atop the western hill. Unearthed in 1964 by the Lithuanian History Institute, terraces were discovered – seems they served as residences. This ancient marvel is dated to the 13th AD century, though no hints of its presence prior to that time are known.
