Gegužių Piliakalnis: Unraveling the Mystery of an Ancient Chamber

Gegužių Piliakalnis, also known as Bliūdkalniu or Galvyčių Piliakalniu, is a part of the A705 P archaeological site located in Šilalė municipality, Lithuania. This long and narrow part of a hill offers an intriguing glimpse into the past. The height of the ridges and slopes of the site is approximately 20 meters, and visitors can descend stairs to reach it. The site is oval in shape, measuring 31 x 10 meters. In 1930, an underground chamber was discovered under the site, and in 1934, parts of the underground chamber were discovered during the excavation. The site was researched by Ludwig Schweickhardt in the 20th century and the Institute of History of Lithuania in 1961. While some believe that a medieval castle once stood on the site, the evidence for this claim remains uncertain.
