Forte San Zeno: A Peek at Verona's Antiquated Sentinel from Yesteryears

Fancy a stroll through the hallowed earth of a 19th-century fortress that once safeguarded Verona? Look no further! Forte San Zeno - or Werk Radetzky - offers a unique glimpse into Verona's past, where history still holds its breath.

Forte San Zeno, then known as Werk Radetzky, was built between 1848 and 1856. Its design, including a terrapien, ditch, rampart, and central ridotto, was completed in 1848 and 1849. The fort grew further in 1859. In times of conflict, it was guarded by a small troop of 60 soldiers. Disarmament occurred in 1861. Of historical significance, the study 'Verona militare: studio storico militare' was published about it in 1877.
