Commissioned in 2005, the Borg El-Arab Stadium is located in the Mediterranean Sea city of Amreya, 25 km west of Alexandria, Egypt. It stands as the second largest stadium in Egypt, the third largest in Africa, and the 9th largest association football stadium in the world. Situated along the Cairo-Alexandria desert highway, the venue is 10 km from Borg El Arab Airport and 15 km from Alexandria's city center.
The stadium covers 145 feddans and features a 6-kilometer internal road network, a parking lot for 5,000 cars and 200 buses, and an airstrip. A 3.5 km long fence surrounds the site, while a 1.2 km long fence controls spectator entrance through 17 gates and 136 electronic machines. Inside, the facility includes 80 shops, 32 restaurants, and 68 restrooms. The main cabin is covered by a metal sunshade which covers 35% of the stadium's total area.
Designed to meet FIFA requirements, the pitch is oriented 12 degrees north west to align with the wind. In addition to the football pitch, the stadium is equipped to host Olympic Games activities, including an athletics track and sand pits for jumping. The facility is air-conditioned in 25% of its area and includes two sub-stadiums for training, each with a capacity of 2,000 spectators. For guests, the site provides a hotel with 200 beds, a conference hall, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium.
