Uppsala Art Museum: A Diversified Storeroom for Artwork

Uppsala Art Museum, situated in the southern wing of Uppsala Castle, is home to about 14,000 artworks and design items. The collection ranges from the late 19th century to the present day. In 1981, the museum received a significant donation from the discontinued ceramics factory Upsala-Ekeby, adding to its already diverse collection. The museum features artwork by famous artists such as Ingrid Atterberg, Hjördis Oldfors, Mari Simmulson, Anna-Lisa Thomson, and Vicke Lindstrand.

This spring, parts of the collection were displayed under three different themes: Places and Landscapes, See the Human, and A Modern Time. The museum primarily focuses on local and regional art, both in temporary exhibitions and its own collection. The museum frequently showcases exhibitions showcasing female artists who have received the Anna-Lisa Thomson Stipendium. As of now, the museum is weighing the decision whether it will remain on Uppsala Castle or move to a new location in the quarter Kaniken.
