The Watchtower Albercutx was not a defensive structure, but a way to keep watch over the sea and send a warning when a raid was approaching. It was built in the late C16 to early C17, just as the town of Pollença was recovering from a devastating pirate attack. Two watchmen manned the tower, standing day and night with eyes to the horizon. They spotted the ships, and sent the signal to the mainland to prepare for the raid. The tower still stands today, a testament to the town’s resilience and a reminder that sometimes, the best defense is watching.
