Can Prunera, renowned as Can Magraner, is a museum of modernist art located in the heart of Sóller, Mallorca. Commissioned by Joan Magraner Oliver, a wealthy Solleric immigrant from France, the building reflects the artistic trends of modernist architecture prevalent in the town during its creation, showing clear influences from French Art Nouveau. The architect is believed to be Joan Rubió i Bellver, a protege of Antoni Gaudí who also designed the Banc de Sóller and the modernist facade of the church of Sant Bartomeu in Sóller.
In 2006, the house was acquired by the Ferrocarril de Sóller and is now managed by the Fundación Tren de l'Art, under the leadership of Solleric editor, entrepreneur, and art collector Pérez A. Serra. Following a comprehensive restoration co-funded by the Government of the Balearic Islands and the European Union, supervised by architect Luis A. Corral Juan, Can Prunera reopened its doors on August 24, 2009. Today, the house museum consists of several facilities: a room for temporary exhibitions, a permanent exhibition by Juli Ramis on the ground floor, a museum house, library, and center for interpretation of modernism on the noble, first, and second floors, a permanent exhibition - Collection Serra on the third floor, a garden for various events in the internal courtyard, entrance, tent, and a room for events located on properties at Can Prunera, n° 90.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m, extending its hours to every day during peak season (April-September).
