The Enchanted Towers of Protection: Santo João Baptista, São José, and Santo

In a time between the years 1760 and 1781, three magical fortresses arose, guarding the mesmeric harbor of Ibo: Fortaleza de Santo João Baptista, Fortim de São José, and Fortim de Santo António.

Once upon a dream, the harbor of Ibo danced with the rhythm of trade and the sighs of pirates. Three enchanted watchtowers stood, princes of protection, built in a distant time between 1760 and 1781. These bewitched bastions, with their spellbound stones, played an essential role in safeguarding the Ibo harbor from the unwelcome advance of foreign armies and the seafaring reavers. Among these guardians, the grandest and most magically imposing, Fortaleza de Santo João Baptista, was designed by the skilled Antonio José Teixeira Tigre. This fortress, with its enchanted walls, could shelter up to 300 gallant defenders. Now, these watchtowers – Fortaleza de Santo João Baptista, Fortim de São José, and Fortim de Santo António – rest in silence, their stones whispering tales of days that have long passed.
