Gyvoliai hillfort, located in Mažeikiai region, dates back 1,500 years to the Iron Age. This ancient site covers an area of 8,100 square metres and is enclosed by a defensive wall, which can reach heights of up to 60 metres in some places. The hillfort has stairs carved into its sides for visitors to explore. Artefacts dating from the 1st to the 13th century AD have been unearthed here, suggesting that the hillfort was occupied for many centuries. It is believed to have been an important strategic location, likely used as a lookout point or refuge during times of conflict. Today, visitors can climb the stairs and explore the hillfort, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
