The Old Church of Xert - a time travel to the Renaissance

The Old Church of Xert, located in the historic center of Xert, is a Catholic temple built in the Renaissance style with Gothic remnants. The church was built at the end of the 13th century, and records show it was documented since 1389. The original wooden roof was replaced by a vault of cross-rib in the 15th century. In 1638, a major architectural renovation of the temple was started, led by Esteve Ganaut. The internal orientation was changed with the construction of a new polygonal apse at the feet of the temple.

The ceiling of the three central naves was replaced by a barrel vault with ribs between 1691 and 1694. The chapel of Communion was constructed at the same time. An incendi destroyed the main altar, the organ, and caused other damages on January 7, 1856.

The Old Church of Xert, later named so due to the construction of a new church in 1962, is considered a Bé de Rellevància Local with the category of Monument d'Interès Local.
