The Murcian castle that once served as a pantheon

Castillo de La Asomada is a military fortification built on Fenician remains. Perched atop the Puerto de la Cadena, it offers a strategic view over the Campo de Cartagena and the Huerta de Murcia. Constructed around the 12th century, it was possibly enriched by a splendor of the Murcia Taifa during the Islamic era. Three fortifications, including Castillo de La Asomada, form a strategic complex, controlling communications between the eastern Mediterranean and Murcia's capital. Numerous archaeological findings suggest that the castle might have served as a pantheon for Muslim emirs, although the internal structure is unknown.
