Martyrium de La Alberca: A Roman Mausoleum in the Pedanía of Murcia

Martyrium de La Alberca is a Roman mausoleum situated in La Alberca, a pedanía of Murcia, in the Región de Murcia, Spain. Dated to approximately the first half of the 4th century AD, it is one of the most significant late Roman monuments on the Iberian Peninsula. Declared a National Monument in 1931, it is located approximately 5 kilometers south of the city of Murcia, in a high archaeological interest zone. Nearby are the basilica of the Llano del Olivar or the late Roman fortress of Los Garres. Earlier settlements in the area include the Iberian sanctuary of la Luz, Cabecico del Tesoro, el Puntarrón Chico, and others. The initial findings were made in 1832 during the construction of water tanks and land terracing.
