The lost Columbus mansion unearthed at Killerton

At first glance, Killerton in Devon seems to be an 18th-century manor house and garden, meticulously preserved by the National Trust. However, hidden within its picturesque grounds lies a journey back in time to a house long lost. Known as the lost Columbus mansion, this structure was believed to be designed by the famous architect James Wyatt, and Google Earth reveals old maps with a house drawn across what was once its proposed location. In 2016, an archaeological dig uncovered what is believed to be parts of the Columbus mansion. The National Trust has marked its believed location within Killerton's gardens with wooden structures, and plans for future archaeological digs are in the works.
