Naujasodis Hillfort: A 1,000-Year-Old Mystery in Lithuania

Nestled in Prienės region, outside Šilavos, lies Naujasodis hillfort - a site shrouded in mystery. Two possible namesakes for this hillfort on a hill baffle historians, as investigations by the Institute of History in 1954 failed to reveal the constructor's identity. While no conclusive evidence has emerged, we do know that it was built during the early to high Middle Ages. In 2005, the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture issued a ruling for the preservation of cultural heritage on Naujasodis hillfort, designating a 4200 m² preservation area.
