The chapel that became a shrine

The chapel of Nuestra Señora de Casbas, now known as the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Casbas, stands outside Ayerbe, near Losanglis. This chapel dates back to the 14th century, but it has seen numerous alterations and expansions throughout the centuries. It was declared a Monumento Nacional in 1979 and is also known as La Capilla Sixtina del Alto Aragón, due to its rich decorative painting inside. The current structure was completed in the early 18th century, and its dependencies, surrounding the temple, have two floors and feature a gallery with arcades added in the 19th century.

These dependencies once served as the sanctuary's residence, accommodation for pilgrims, and a reception area for visitors. Notable modifications include the addition of a grand baroque coro and renovations in the 19th and 20th centuries. However, the sanctuary's ownership is still under dispute between the diocese of Huesca and the town of Ayerbe.
