A secret of the 1st Millennium, hidden in plain sight in a place where history is a staircase up the hillside. Dūkštelių piliakalnis II, known as Putrakalnis and a unique (MC code 33310) hill site, lies in Ignalina Rural Area, southwest of Dūkšto, Dūkšto Senatorate. It hides in the slopes of Samanio Lake, well camouflaged among the stones and the peat. An oval hillside, 1.4 meters high and 11 x 7 meters wide, sits 350 meters southwest of Dūkšto piliakalnis. Its highest part rises up to 2 meters and its base reaches up to 0.3 meters. Stones and rock structures stand here, silent witnesses to the hunters who once used them to build. The hill is the way the old ways resisted in a land investing in the new. It was added to the Cultural Heritage Register in 2009.
