Step back 1,500 years and explore the Dukshtas hillfort, a 1st-3rd century CE fortified settlement that was unearthed in the 20th century.

The Dukshtas hillfort, located in Dūkšteliai I, Senzas Dūkštas, is an oval mound, measuring 25 x 30 meters. Archaeological excavations in 1909 led by Liudvikas Kšivickis, Tadas Daugirdas, and Antanas Žmuidzinavičius, and later by the Institute of History in 1958 and 1966, revealed pottery, artifacts, and iron nails dating back to the 1st – 3rd centuries CE. A 8 square meter plot was found with pottery, clay bricks, iron nails, and stone walls. A 28,000 square meter area surrounding the hillfort has been protected for cultural preservation, with a visual protection zone of 3,502,000 square meters established.
