Ancient Secrets of Samylai Hillfort

The Samylai Hillfort, tucked away in the Kaunas region, is a protected archaeological site. This mysterious fortress, believed to have been built by unknown people, dates back to the 1st millennium AD. Spanning approximately 6.5 meters in width and 9 meters in length, the hillfort boasts a 1.5-meter thick cultural layer that was discovered in 1925. The Research and Methodology Department explored the site in 1953 and 1972, and the National Museum of Lithuania continues its research. In 2005, the Lithuanian Culture Minister issued a preservation order for the hillfort, safeguarding an area of 32,000 m².
