On the banks of Kauno marios (Nemunas) river, there is a triangular-shaped mound, approximately 9-15 meters high. Part of the hill is submerged by Nemunas and Kauno marios. The total height of the hill is 1/3 in the north side (23 meters long and 13 meters wide in the top, 6 meters in the bottom part) and 1-2 meters in the south side. Approximately 2-3 meters below the southern part of the hill, there is a 23-meter-long and 4.7-meter-wide trench, separated from the hill by 10 meters in width and 2 meters in depth.
It is suspected that the old Dovainonių castle or Dovainonių papilį was located here. Archaeological research conducted by various institutions has found remnants of housing structures, a slab, bricks, battlements, and ramparts, as well as clay pottery. The hill is dated from the 1st millennium BC to the 13th century and was seven times fortified and raised, confirmed by medieval ruins. The ancient castle remains are protected by the State Cultural Heritage Protection Service.
