The ruined remains of a medieval fort, now concealed by the woods to the right of the Nemunas river, near the modern-day Zukine, Girionyse, have captivated the curiosity of many. Strategically hidden from past invaders, it is believed to have been a fort. However, the claim that the fort was built on the site of an older Pakalniskiaia settlement remains unverified.
The slow demise of the fort saw invaders closing in on it silently, only to abandon the fort without restoring it. The hillfort eventually faded away due to the construction of Kauno HE.
