Porta San Biagio, one of Lecce's three ancient gateways, holds a rich history. Originated in the 15th century by Tommaso Ruffo, it underwent reconstruction by Ruffo himself in the 18th century. Named after Saint Blaise, the 18th-century addition of the statue of Saint Blaise atop the gateway marks its most striking feature. The gate bears the emblems of King Ferdinando IV of Naples and Lecce city, duplicated by Lecce’s emblem on each side. Situated near Piazza d'Italia, its storied past is evident in every detail.
