Iron Age Fort in Švenčionių seniūnija, Ponų Hill Unmentioned

The Nevieriškes fort is a cultural monument located in Švenčionių seniūnija, about 2 kilometers from Nevieriškės. The fort, also known as a village (unique object MC code 31689), is situated in a separate enclosure, Dėmės to the west, and can be approached from Švenčionys – Reškutėnai, Nevieriškių starting point, through a track, crossing the fields to the west. The fort is heavily damaged and overgrown. The History Institute excavated the fort and the findings are stored at the National Museum of Lithuania and the Švenčionys Regional Museum.

The excavation conducted in 1976-1978 exposed a large area of the fort's foundation – 1486 square meters of land. It appears that the fort underwent at least 4 reconstruction phases. In the lower part of the hill's slope, excavations revealed artifacts suggesting iron smelting. The Lithuanian Government decided to protect the cultural monument in 1998. The cultural monument's territory covers 2.53 hectares, and the visual protection zone spans 1025000 m².
