The Millennium-old Hidden Hillfort in the Overgrown Countryside of Ceikiniai

A millennium-old hillfort is concealed in the overgrowth of Ceikiniai, part of the Ignalina region. To find it, follow the old road between Ceikiniai and Mielagėnai Čebatoriuos, turning left, running parallel to Dalgėdų, Jakaviškių šiaurinėje dalyje, until it veers right, leading to a small glen. After 150 meters, the road terminates into a pit, but the flow of the stream is unhindered. The hillfort, shaped like a trapezoid, measures 50 meters in length and 25 meters in the east-west direction, 15 meters in the north-south direction, and stands 9 meters tall.

Discoveries of ceramics were found on the north side of the hillfort. The hillfort, though not well preserved, covers an area of 14,000 square meters. The visual protection zone of the hillfort is 1,162,000 square meters. This hillfort was discovered by the Archaeological Investigation Team in 1988 and dates back to the first part of the 1st millennium AD. The Lithuanian Culture Ministry issued a preservation request on 2005-04-29; Nr. ĮV-190; the hillfort was first published in 1993.
