Seville, the capital of Andalusia in southern Spain, features two monuments dedicated to explorer Christopher Columbus. The Columbus Monument, built in 1921, showcases two carved prows of caravels on a circular pedestal, remnants of a lost fountain. Designed by Juan Talavera y Heredia for architecture and Lorenzo Coullaut Valera for sculpture, the monument stands at 23 meters on Paseo de Catalina de Ribera. The base of the monument features two bronze cartelas, one with the name Isabel and the other with Fernando, engraved on their respective sides. Inside the base, two marble medallions display the bust of Columbus and the coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs. A lion emblazoned with an orb stands atop the monument. Originally designed as the base for a fountain, this monument is a tribute to Columbus.
