Iron Age Hillfort: Largest in the Baltic Region

Mineikiškiety piliakalnis, located in Zarasų region, dates back to the Iron Age. To access it from Zarasai town, travel via the A6 highway, turn left at the village of Avilių, follow the Nadūno stream, turn right into a valley, and then turn left again after 500 meters. The hillfort stands approximately 16 meters high, with about 6 meters above ground level. A 10-meter stepped terrace is situated 3 meters below the entrance level. Archaeological investigations conducted in 1949 and 1972 by the Institute of History and Archaeology uncovered stone tools, pottery, and iron weapons within the hillfort. The site is protected by the Lithuanian government.
