Villa Rizzardi's Hidden Renaissance Theatre: A Valpolicella Gem Since 1677

Step behind the ornate Villa Rizzardi to uncover a hidden gem from the Italian Renaissance: a restored garden theatre dating back to 1677.

Situated in the heart of Valpolicella, the Pojega Garden at Villa Rizzardi is a remarkable example of Italy’s formal Italian-style gardens. The garden was designed by architect Luigi Trezza in 1870 for Count Antonio Rizzardi, echoing the grandeur of the Italian Renaissance. Over five hectares in size, the Pojega Garden showcases a teatro di verzura, or outdoor theatre, as well as Italianate and romantic gardens, all surrounded by rolling hills and plains of the Valpolicella region. Villa Rizzardi, which stands on a hill, north-east of the town of Negrar, overlooks this remarkable garden and today hosts events and receptions. The Pojega estate has belonged to the Rizzardi counts since 1649. After significant restoration efforts, the garden and villa are now open to the public.
