Seventeenth-century fortress with a view: Skansen Lejonet

Skansen Lejonet, situated atop Gullberget hill in northern Gothenburg, is a well-preserved 17th-century fortress. Originally, it was designed to safeguard Gothenburg against potential Danish aggressors. By 1822, the fortress was decommissioned. Today, it is under the care of the Götiska Förbundet, who offer event spaces, a chapel on the upper floor, and panoramic views of the city's skyline. The site's elevated location, with commanding views and strategically placed barriers hindering approaches, echoes its historic defensive purposes.
