Agricultural Heritage: Johanna and the Sow at Gothenburg and Växjö

Såningskvinnan, also known as Johanna, is a 7.5-metre-tall statue in Gothenburg, sculpted by Per Hasselberg in 1883. Donated to the city by Rittmeister Carl Krook in 1878, Johanna was unveiled on the nameday of Johanna on 21 July 1883 and underwent renovation and reinstatement on 10 March 2016. Johanna stands in Brunnsparken, serving as a testament to the vital role of women in agriculture. In Växjö, another notable statue exists. Sáningskarlen, or the Sow, is a 5-metre-tall sculpture created by Johan Stefansson in 1921. The statue portrays a man sowing seeds with a tool in one hand, and a small boy playing near him. Sáningskarlen is a symbol of the importance of farming in the regional history.
